Welcome to Aerocommanders!

Welcome to the home of AeroCommanders.org. This site is currently under construction, but we have provided a brief outline below of who we are and what we plan to do.

AeroCommanders exists to provide a vehicle for exposing youth (target ages of 6-20) to all disciplines of the aviation industry in a manner that promotes learning, personal accomplishment, and self-discipline.

AeroCommanders is currently seeking recognition under Internal Revenue Service Code 501(c)3 as an educational not-for-profit corporation. The method for achieving our goals are expected to be accomplished in the following order;

Procure sufficient space at an urban airport to set up a functional and interactive aviation museum with interesting and educational displays catering to the 6-20 year old. Negotiations are under way with several national agencies, both DoD and others for display aircraft to be coupled with interpretive panels that provide far more than nomenclature and payload.

'Day Camp' type programs including classroom and hands-on instruction in aerodynamic principles, weather, mechanical disciplines and aircraft operations, possibly developing into an actual charter Aviation High School curriculum.

Field study trips to Airline maintenance centers, FAA field offices, air traffic control facilities and fixed-base operators (FBO) to allow participants to get a real feel for the 'nuts and bolts' of an aviation career.

Given sufficient interest and funding, flight instruction as well as maintenance technician courses, or sponsored apprenticeship programs with interested air carriers or FBOs.

Do you like what you are hearing? Are you interested in how you can help AeroCommanders achieve some of there goals? Do YOU want to help? Here's what we need;

Obviously, operating capital is always useful and appreciated, but there are many ways to assist us that don't involve parting with your h ard-earned cash. As a start-up 'Grass Roots' organization there are many needs. First and foremost, we are looking for a suitable home. We have initiated negotiations with NASA for space at AAMES Research Center / Moffett Federal Airfield in the San Francisco Bay Area, but this would be open space with no facilities at present. There is also a need to spread the word that this program is being undertaken. Next we will need volunteers to design and assemble exhibits, curriculum, and literature. Aviation professionals that find themselves with available time will be sought as mentors and instructors. As it is the intent of the program to give full exposure to aviation, undesired tools, parts, and yes, even airframes will be needed, as well as inexpensive places to store overflow. If you are interested in seeing yourself as a part of this program at work, drop an email to bill@aerocommanders.org and we will be in touch.

Thank you for your interest in AeroCommanders we're here to stay, and hope you will be too. Drop by often and see how things are shaping up for our future, our children.
